Tritel Intercommunications (NG) launches SIP Trunking solution
Tritel Intercommunications (Tritel NG), a communications solutions provider in Nigeria has launched a SIP trunking service which can be used by Nigeria enterprises to achieve savings in call charges of potentially millions of Naira. It is an ideal complementary service to any SIP-based IP PBX. Target users are small, medium and large companies in Nigeria who have already invested in IP telephony systems and now wish to take advantage of an optional alternative to their primary PTO for termination of local and international voice calls over the internet.
There is no requirement for investment in additional technology to sign up for this solution. In addition, there are no monthly fees associated with the service, other than payment for calls that are made over the system.
A web-based customer portal is included as part of the service to allow customers to have full access to their account information and complete call detail records (CDR).

The Tritel NG SIP trunking solution is based on application servers and softswitch appliances that are hosted in secure data centre locations with 24/7 electricity and sufficient bandwidth to provide a reliable and redundant service to our valued customers. Tritel NG has several underlying Tier 1 carriers with whom we have partnered to make this service possible.
Technical Features:
- - Voice signalling: SIP & H323 (although SIP is preferred)
- - # of voice channels: Depends on bandwidth - as an illustration a company with 200kbps of bandwidth can make 10 simultaneous G729 calls
- - Codec: G.711, G.729 and G.723
- - Capacity: Supports an overall total of up to 10,000 simultaneous calls
- - Setup time: Access to the service can be set up in less than 24 hours
Note that this service does not eliminate or replace the need for companies to be connected to a traditional public telephone operator (PTO). The connection to a traditional PTO is still required for companies to maintain their numbering plan for incoming calls. Essentially all incoming calls will continue to be routed via the PTO who assigned the customer's number range. However, the Tritel NG solution provides an opportunity to route outbound calls via the internet at lower rates.
